Emirates Boeing 777 on fire after landing at Dubai Airport

A plane travelling from Kerala, India has crash-landed at Dubai International Airport with 282 passengers, according to the Dubai government media office.

Emirates airline has confirmed an “incident” at the airport. Clouds of black smoke could be seen billowing from the plane on pictures posted to social media.

The aircraft was reportedly evacuated. Authorities are working to ensure the safety of those on board, the Dubai government media office said on Twitter, all 282 onboard are safe.

Air traffic monitor Flightradar24 said that takeoffs and landings at Dubai had been suspended. The flight involved was EK251 coming from Kerala, it said.

The incident happened at around 12.45pm local time.

A passenger who was sitting in the front row has told how he thought he was going to die as the plane crash landed.

Ibrahim Thomas said: “I was sitting in the front row window seat. I saw the right side engine caught fire and then it was in the cabin.
“In another five minutes emergency doors were opened by the crew.”
Asked if he thought he would die, he replied: “Yes, yes, yes.”

None of the 300 people on board – including 24 Brits – are believed to have been injured but a firefighter, Jasim Issa Mohammed Hassan, died while putting out the flames.
